FORT WORDEN RECOVERY CONTINUES BUT SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGES REMAIN


PORT TOWNSEND-- After financial mismanagement and fifty years of deferred building, infrastructure maintenance and upgrades, in 2021 the Fort Worden Public Development Authority (FWPDA) began planning for recovery.

FORT WORDEN ENTRY DAMAGE UPDATE. 

This summer, one of the brick entry columns was sheared off by an unknown vehicle.

 

State Parks has been working on a plan to replace it. While assessing options, a decision was made to move both historic pillars farther from the intersection with W Street.   This will provide for a larger turning radius for big vehicles and make the entire intersection safer for everyone.

FRAUD CASE GOES TO PROSECUTOR.

The Jefferson County Prosecutor has filed an Information accusing FWPDA’s former chief financial officer with fraud and theft.

 

An internal review led to an investigation by the State Auditor’s Office and the findings were confirmed by an independent review.

Fort Worden PDA Receives “Clean Opinion” 

From State Auditor’s Office.

The Fort Worden Public Development Authority (FWPDA) has received a final clean audit opinion from the State Auditor’s Office (SAO) for three consecutive years: 2018, 2019 and 2020.
